MEASUREMENT OF THE SPECTRUM OF THE PULSATION VELOCITY IN THE TURBULENT BOUNDARY LAYER OF A NON-NEWTONIAN FLOW

The results of thermo-anemometer measurements of turbulence intensity, the spectra of the longitudinal components of the pulsation velocity and friction at the surface in a turbulent boundary layer in flows of water and aqueous solutions of polyacrylamide are presented. It is shown that the presence of a polymer additive, which does not alter the intensity of the turbulence, leads to quenching of the high-frequency components of the pulsation velocity and to a decrease in surface friction.
