A RANGE OF METHODS OF TESTING SOILS IS SET OUT BY THIS STANDARD FOR ENGINEERING PURPOSES. DETAILS INCLUDE THE APPARATUS REQUIRED AND THE PROCEDURE NECESSARY TO OBTAIN REPRESENTATIVE SOIL SAMPLES FOR TESTING. THE TEST METHODS ARE GROUPED IN FIVE PARTS: (1) SOIL MOISTURE CONTENT TESTS (2) SOIL CLASSIFICATION TESTS; (3) SOIL CHEMICAL TESTS; (4) SOIL COMPACTION TESTS; AND (5) SOIL STRENGTH TESTS. /RRL/
