FIRECRACKERS FOR SHALLOW SEISMIC SURVEYS

AN ATTEMPT TO DELINEATE AND MAP THE BEDROCK SURFACE IN TRACE CREEK BASIN, HUMPHREYS COUNTY, TENN., BY SEISMIC SURVEY WAS MADE TO LOCATE BURIED GORGES AND APPARENT AREAS OF WATER LOSS. SURVEY BY THUMPER DEPICTED ONLY THE WATER TABLE AND SHALLOW FORMATIONAL CONTACTS, NOT THE BEDROCK. AFTER A TRIAL AND ERROR SEARCH, FIRECRACKERS WERE FOUND TO BE A SATISFACTORY SOURCE. TECHNIQUES WITH THE ORIGINAL THUMPER AND MODIFIED FORM WITH FIRECRACKER SOURCE ARE DESCRIBED. /GA/
