THE GEOLOGIST IN CONSTRUCTION

GEOLOGISTS PARTICIPATING IN CONSTRUCTIONAL PROGRAMS ASSIST THE CIVIL ENGINEER AND DESIGNER BY EVALUATING CHARACTERISTICS OF ROCKS UPON AND IN WHICH STRUCTURES ARE TO BE BUILT. THREE-DIMENSIONAL GEOLOGIC DATA SHOULD BE AS QUANTITATIVE AS POSSIBLE AND PRESENTED TO THE ENGINEERING STAFF IN UNDERSTANDABLE AND CONCISE FORM. A GEOLOGIST SHOULD BE COGNIZANT OF THE MANY INTERRELATED PHASES OF CONSTRUCTION AND RECOGNIZE WHERE HE BEST CAN CONTRIBUTE TO THE TOTAL PLANNING OF A PROJECT. HE MUST ACCEPT A FAILURE AS READILY AS A SUCCESS IN THE EVENT GEOLOGICAL EVALUATION WAS THE BASIS FOR THE FAILURE. /AUTHOR/
