URBAN MASS TRANSIT PLANNING PROJECT - TECHNICAL REPORT NO 4: MODAL SPLIT SIMULATION MODEL

MODAL SPLIT HAS TWO COMPONENTS, CHOICE AND PREDICTION. AFTER IDENTIFYING THE FACTORS THAT MOTIVATE CHOICE OF ONE MODE OVER ANOTHER, THE ANALYST MUST ASSESS THE SPLIT THAT WILL RESULT FROM JUST A POSITION OF CHOICE FACTORS IN GIVEN SITUATIONS, INCLUDING THE CHARACTERISTICS OF A FUTURE TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM. THIS STUDY EXAMINES MODAL SPLIT IN THREE STAGES. FIRST, THE MAJOR MODAL SPLIT MODELS ARE EXAMINED TO DETERMINE WHICH VARIABLES SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN ANY MODAL SPLIT MODEL. SECOND, A PARTICULAR MODAL SPLIT MODEL IS SELECTED FOR FURTHER EVALUATION IN THE CONTEXT OF VARYING URBAN SETTINGS. FINALLY, A SIMULATION MODEL, IS PRESENTED.
