HOME INTERVIEW MANUAL 1956

THIS MANUAL DEALS WITH THE POLICIES AND PROCEDURES OF THE INTERNAL SURVEY OF THE CHICAGO AREA TRANSPORTATION STUDY AS IT RELATES TO HOME INTERVIEWING. THE SURVEY WILL OBTAIN DESIRED INFORMATION BY INTERVIEWING A CROSS-SECTION OF HOUSEHOLDS IN THIS AREA. THE SURVEY WILL MEASURE TRAVEL WITHIN THE AREA BY EVERY MEMBER OF EACH SAMPLE HOUSEHOLD /INCLUDING VISITORS FROM OUTSIDE THE AREA/, FIVE YEARS OLD OR OLDER, FOR A PREDESIGNATED DAY, SHOWING THE NUMBER OF TRIPS MADE, WHEN EACH TRIP BEGAN AND ENDED, ITS ORIGIN AND DESTINATION, THE MEANS OF TRAVEL USED FOR EACH TRIP AND THE PURPOSE FOR WHICH EACH TRIP WAS MADE, TYPE OF PARKING USED, AND OTHER RELATED INFORMATION. THE TOTAL NUMBER OF HOUSEHOLDS TO BE INTERVIEWED WILL BE APPROXIMATELY 56,000. INSTRUCTIONS TO THE INTERVIEWERS, FORMS AND GENERAL PROCEDURES ARE OUTLINED.
