METHOD OF DETERMINING THE UNIFORMITY OF THE MIX IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF SOIL-CEMENT AND SUB-BASES

A RAPID AND SIMPLE METHOD WHICH CAN BE USED ON A CONSTRUCTION JOB TO DETERMINE THE UNIFORMITY OF A SOIL-CEMENT MIX AND THE APPROXIMATE PORTLAND CEMENT CONTENT IS DESCRIBED. THE METHOD, PROPOSED BY DR. CELESTINO RUIZ, IS BASED ON THE PRINCIPLE THAT LIME OR CALCIUM OXIDE LIBERATED BY THE CEMENT UNDER ACTION OF WATER IN THE FORM OF CALCIUM HYDROXIDE IS DETERMINED FROM THE PH OF THE SUSPENSION. RUIZ OPERATES WITH A BUFFER SOLUTION OF ACETIC ACID-SODIUM ACETATE WITH PH BETWEEN 5.8 AND 6.0 PROCEDURE AND APPARATUS ARE DESCRIBED. TABLES OF RESULTS ARE APPENDED.
