THE INFLUENCE OF GRAIN SIZE ON THE SHEAR STRENGTH OF SANDS /IN SPANISH/

THE SHEAR STRENGTH OF SAND WAS STUDIED BY MEANS OF TRIAXIAL TESTS ON THIRTEEN DIFFERENT GRANULAR COMPOSITIONS, WITH EFFECTIVE OR NOMINAL SIZE FROM 0.075 TO 0.60 MM AND COEFFICIENT OF UNIFORMITY FROM 1.5 TO 8. EQUATIONS OF LINEAR CORRELATION WERE OBTAINED FOR RELATIVE DENSITY FROM APPROXIMATELY 0.4 TO 1 FROM WHICH AN EXPRESSION OF THE MEAN VALUE OF THE FRICTION ANGLE WAS DERIVED AS A FUNCTION OF THE RELATIVE DENSITY, WITH MAXIMUM VARIATIONS PLUS OR MINUS 2 DEGREES. THE LATTER REPRESENT THE INFLUENCE OF THE GRANULAR COMPOSITION AND SHAPE OF PARTICLES. /TRRL/
