STUDY TESTS AND DEVELOPMENT OF GAUGES FOR MEASURING THE ACTIVE EARTH PRESSURE OF SOIL AND POWDERY IN IN-SITU STRUCTURES /IN RUSSIAN/

VARIOUS TYPES OF GAUGES FOR MEASURING EARTH PRESSURES ARE DESCRIBED AND RESULTS GIVEN OF LABORATORY AND IN- SITU STUDIES. MEASUREMENT ERRORS IN A SOIL MASS AND ESPECIALLY THE EFFECT OF THE DIRECTION OF THE GAUGES ARE DISCUSSED. A METHOD IS PRESENTED TO PREVENT THIS EFFECT FROM OCCURRING DURING CALIBRATON TESTS AND MEASUREMENTS. A TWIN-MEMBRANE SYMMETRICAL GAUGE NOT SUSCEPTIBLE TO THIS EFFECT IS DESCRIBED. /TRRL/
