ESTIMATING SOIL-CEMENT STRENGTHS IN SAND SOILS

DURING CONSTRUCTION OF A CEMENT-TREATED SUBBASE FOR A CONCRETE PAVEMENT AT THE MARINE CORPS AUXILIARY AIR STATION, YUMA, ARIZONA, CHARTS AND NOMOGRAPHS WERE DEVELOPED FOR A PARTICULAR SAND TO ESTABLISH THE QUANTITY OF CEMENT NEEDED TO PRODUCE 300 PSI AT 7-DAYS. PLOTS WERE MADE SHOWING 7-DAY UNCONFINED COMPRESSIVE STRENGTHS VERSUS DENSITY, PERCENT CEMENT REQUIRED TO PRODUCE 300 PSI VERSUS DENSITY. THESE PLOTS WERE CONVERTED TO A NOMOGRAPH FOR CONSTRUCTION PURPOSES SHOWING THICKNESS, DRY WEIGHT OF SOIL AND QUANTITY CEMENT REQUIRED.
