THE EXPLANATION OF TIME STABILIZATION OF CLAY SOILS
THE TIME STABILIZATION OF SOILS WITH A CONSTANT WATER CONTENT WAS EXAMINED ON THREE TYPES OF CLAY SOILS (KAOLINITE, ILLITE, MONTMORILLONITE) AND ON TWO MIXTURES OF KAOLINITE AND QUARTZ SAND. THE TESTS WERE CARRIED OUT WITH VARIOUS WATER CONTENTS. THE DEGREE OF STABILIZATION WAS MEASURED BY CONE PENETRATION. THE INCREASE IN STABILIZATION, WHICH CAN BE ATTRIBUTED TO THE THIXOTROPY, TAKES PLACE IN A RELATIVELY SHORT TIME. FURTHER STABILIZATION MUST BE ATTRIBUTED TO COAGULATION, PEPTISATION, CEMENTING, AND OTHER FACTORS. /FG/RRL/
