FIT SUBURBIA TO ITS SOILS

THE NATURE OF SOILS IS DESCRIBED IN SIMPLE TERMS AND THE IMPORTANCE OF THIS SUBJECT FOR LAND DEVELOPMENT STRESSED. RATHER THAN VIEWING THE SOIL SURVEY AND SOIL MAP AS A FURTHER COMPLICATION IN THE ALREADY COMPLEX BUSINESS OF LAND DEVELOPMENT, IT IS SUGGESTED THAT THEY BE CONSIDERED AS READILY AVAILABLE AND HIGHLY USEDFUL TOOLS IN SITE SELECTION AND EVALUATION WHICH CAN ASSIST THE PLANNER, ENGINEER, AND DEVELOPER, IN AVOIDING COSTLY MISTAKES IN SITE SELECTION AND DEVELOPMENT. SOIL CLASSIFICATION SYSTEMS AND SOIL SURVEYS ARE DISCUSSED. A MODERN SOIL SURVEY SHOWS ON A PHOTOMOSAIC THE STEAMS AND THE KINDS OF SOIL IN INTIMATE RELATIONS TO ROADS AND OTHER FEATURES THAT SHOW ON THE MAP. IT GIVES THE SCIENTIFIC DESCRIPTION OF EACH KIND OF SOIL FOR USE BY SCIENTISTS AND ENGINEERS. INTERPRETATIONS ARE BEING MADE FROM SOIL SURVEYS FOR TECHNIQUES IN TYPES OF CONSTRUCTION. A SOIL SURVEY GIVES ALL THE REASONABLE ALTERNATIVES FOR GROWING PLANTS UNDER DIFFERENT SYSTEMS OF MANAGEMENT FOR EACH KIND OF SOIL. SOIL SURVEYS ARE CONCLUDED TO BE VERY IMPORTANT TO COMMUNITY PLANNING.
