KOCKUMS COMPLETE JOHN A. MCCONE. LARGEST FROM A SWEDISH YARD
The 212,010 tons dwt, 16 k John A. McCone, designed using the Displacement Automated Integral System ( DAISY ) program for a major strength analysis of the entire hull structure, has been instrumented for the particular measuring of actual hull stresses occurring at sea during the trials and the first ballast trip to the Middle East. For statical measurements 540 strain gages have been fitted, some 100 of which are to be used also for dynamical measurements. The main purpose is, of course, to verify previous theoretical calculations. Major features are given for the hull, cargo oil handling, machinery, auxiliaries, and paint coatings.
