IT'S MOVING 330,000 PEOPLE DAILY, $250 MILLION ANNUALLY IN CHICAGO
Mass Transit in Chicago means over 330,000 persons in motions each day on mass transportation vehicles. Each year close to $250 million are collected in fares. The Chicago Transit Authority, the second largest transit system in North America Comprises six major commuter railroads, plus three others that provide less extensive services, and a dozen-and-a-half bus lines. The capital equipment programs for Chicago's Rapid Transit and commuter railroad systems crawled along at a snail's pace in 1971, however, it is hoped that in 1972 the pace will quicken, as take action on the numerous requests for financial aid submitted by local public bodies in 1971.
