VALUE OF TIME: DEVELOPMENT PROJECT REPORT ON STAGE 3

THIS NOTE REPORTS ON THE THIRD IN A SERIES OF SMALL SCALE RESEARCH PROJECTS THE AIM OF WHICH WAS TO ASSESS THE SUITABILITY OF RESEARCH METHODS DESIGNED TO EVALUATE PRIORITY PREFERENCES. STAGE ONE INVESTIGATED THE RANGE OF FACTORS INFLUENCING THE MODAL CHOICE OF COMMUTERS RESIDING IN REDBRIDGE. STAGE 2 DESCRIBED THE APPLICATION OF THE PRIORITY EVALUATOR TO THE ANALYSIS OF DATA COLLECTED IN STAGE 1. THIS NOTE DESCRIBES STAGE 3 WHICH WAS DESIGNED TO TEST SPECIFIC ASPECTS RELATING TO THE DATA COLLECTED WITH THE PRIORITY EVALUATOR. ITS AIM WAS TO SHOW THAT (1) THE DATA WERE CONSISTENT (IF THE TESTS WERE REPEATED, THE SAME RESULTS WOULD BE OBTAINED), AND (2) THE DATA WERE ROBUST (IF THE NATURE OF THE INPUT WERE ALTERED THE SAME GENERAL PATTERN OF PREFERENCES WOULD BE OBTAINED). IN ADDITION THE DATA WERE USED TO GAIN MORE INFORMATION ON THE NATURE OF THE RELATION BETWEEN THE ACTUAL/EXPECTED CHOICE RATIO AND THE PRICE/VALUE RATIO. A SAMPLE OF 120 RESPONDENTS WAS SELECTED FROM MOT PERSONNEL TO PROVIDE THE DATA FOR STAGE 3. SEE ALSO IRRD ABSTRACT NO 203623.
