VALUE OF TIME ON RECREATIONAL TRIPS

THIS NOTE PRESENTS SOME PRELIMINARY RESULTS OF A STUDY OF TRIP GENERATION TO A NUMBER OF POPULAR HOLIDAY AREAS. ITS MAIN PURPOSE IS TO STIMULATATE DISCUSSION OF THE METHODOLOGY OUTLINED IN TIME RESEARCH NO. 1. IT CONSISTS OF 2 PARTS: THE FIRST DISCUSSES SOME PECULIARITIES OF HOLIDAY TRIPS TO DEVON, WHICH IT IS INTENDED TO SUBMIT TO A MORE VIGOROUS ANALYSIS AT A LATER STAGE OF THE STUDY, USING A VARIANT OF THE "COST ONCE DIFFERENCE" APPROACH TO MODAL SPLIT SUGGESTED BY EDWARD KAFKA. THE SECOND PART RELATES TO TRIPS TO THE YORKSHIRE DALES AND THE CONSTRUCTION OF A SIMPLE MODEL TO RELATE TRIPS TO THAT NATIONAL PARK WITH THE DEMAND FOR AND COST OF TRIPS TO THE LAKE DISTRICT.
