ADSORPTION MEASUREMENTS IN DILUTE SOLUTIONS OF DRAG-REDUCING POLYMER

Experimental evidence supporting an adsorptional mechanism for the reduction of friction drag in the turbulent pipe flow of dilute solutions of polyoxyethylene in water has been obtained in the form of adsorptional measurements, measurements indicating increasing additive concentrations at the pipe wall, and additive axial dispersion measurements. An analytical method used to determine very low concentrations of polyoxyethylene in water (2 to 100 ppm) is reported.
