SIMPLIFIED METHOD OF ELECTROSLAG WELDING OF RELATIVELY THIN PIECES

VEREINFACHTE METHODE DES ELEKTROSCHLACKESCHWEISSENS VON DUENNEREN WERKSTUECKEN

The method described is used principally for welding 12 to 25 mm thick steel plate for ship building. Good results depend on the use of a specially developed CaO-CaF2 base slag. Metal transfer and metallurgical reactions, heat input, properties and structure of the weld, welding techniques and equipment are discussed.
