UTILIZATION OF DIGITAL COMPUTERS FOR REAL TIME TRAFFIC CONTROL /PART 2/

THIS REPORT IS PART TWO OF A TWO-PART SERIES DESCRIBING THE UTILIZATION OF DIGITAL COMPUTERS FOR CONTROLLING VEHICLE TRAFFIC IN URBAN AREAS. WHEREAS PART ONE DESCRIBED COMPUTER HARDWARE IN GENERAL AND SOME OF THE SIMPLER CONCEPTS OF THEIR OPERATION, THIS PART DESCRIBES TWO COMPUTERIZED TRAFFIC CONTROL SYSTEMS WHICH ARE CURRENTLY IN USE IN SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA, AND WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS. THESE TWO LOCATIONS WERE CHOSEN BY THE AUTHOR AS A MATTER OF CONVENIENCE, BUT ESPECIALLY BECAUSE THEY ARE GOOD EXAMPLES OF THE TYPES OF COMPUTER TRAFFIC CONTROL SYSTEMS THAT ARE LIKELY TO EVOLVE DURING THE NEXT FEW YEARS.
