THE INTERSECTION DELAY PROBLEM WITH GAP ACCEPTANCE FUNCTION DEPENDING ON SPEED AND TIME

THE DISTRIBUTION OF THE DELAY TO A SINGLE CAR AT AN INTERSECTION IS ANALYZED, WHEN THE GAP ACCEPTANCE DEPENDS ON THE SPEED OF THE NEXT CAR TO ARRIVE AT THE INTERSECTION. THE LAPLACE TRANSFORM OF THE DISTRIBUTION IS OBTAINED AS A DIRECT EXTENSION OF THE RESULTS DERIVED EARLIER BY WEISS AND MARADUDIN (OPERATIONS RESEARCH, VOL. 10, 1962, PP. 74-104). THE LAPLACE TRANSFORM IS THEN USED TO EVALUATE THE MEAN DELAY. THE NUMERICAL VALUES THUS OBTAINED BY THE AUTHOR DEMONSTRATE THAT WHEN THE TRAFFIC IS LIGHT, THE DIFFERENCES IN THE MEAN DELAY TIME WHEN CALCULATED WITH VELOCITY DEPENDENCE ARE SMALL AND PROBABLY NEGLIGIBLE FROM THE PRACTICAL POINT OF VIEW. /BPR/
