IMPROVED SIGNAL VISIBILITY REDUCES ACCIDENTS

TO EVALUATE EFFECTIVENESS OF VISIBILITY IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM, THREE ARTERIAL STREET SECTIONS HAVE BEEN STUDIED. THE STUDIES INVOLVED COMPARISONS OF ACCIDENT PATTERNS AT INTERSECTIONS ALONG STREETS BEFORE AND AFTER IMPROVEMENTS. THE VOLUME COUNTS WERE TAKEN ALONG ARTERIALS AND ON CROSS STREETS DURING BOTH BEFORE AND AFTER PERIODS. THE SPEED LIMIT ON EACH OF THREE STUDY SECTIONS WAS 35 MPH THROUGHOUT STUDY PERIODS. /AUTHOR/
