FRINGE PARKING IN RELATION TO TRANSIT OPERATIONS

THE FRINGE PARKING LOT AS RELATED TO TRANSIT OPERATIONS IS REVIEWED. THE BALTIMORE TRANSIT COMPANY BEGAN THE OPERATION OF A FRINGE PARKING LOT WITH A SHUTTLE BUS LINE INTO THE DOWNTOWN SHOPPING AND BUSINESS DISTRICT IN 1946. THE WASTEFULNESS OF CURB PARKING IS REALIZED AS WELL AS ITS INTERFERENCE WITH THE PRIMARY MOVEMENT OF VEHICLES CONTRIBUTING TO TRAFFIC CONGESTION. THE PARKING PROBLEM IS THAT OF PROVIDING OFF-STREET STORAGE FOR THE AUTOMOBILES OF DRIVERS WHO NEED TERMINAL FACILITIES IN THE DOWNTOWN BUSINESS SECTION. THE VALUE OF FRINGE PARKING HAS IMPROVED IN BALTIMORE AND THE IDEA SEEMS POPULAR WITH THE MOTORISTS.
