PEDESTRIAN CAPACITIES OF SHELTER ENTRANCES
PEDESTRIAN FLOW RATES, FOR POPULATIONS SUCH AS MIGHT BE ENTERING CIVIL DEFENSE SHELTERS, ARE ESTIMATED FROM PREVIOUS RESEARCH AND FROM COUNTS OBTAINED MANUALLY AND FROM FILMS. FLOW VOLUME, FLOW RATE VARIATION FOR DIFFERENT TIME INTERVALS, FLOW RATE IN RELATION TO PASSAGEWAY WIDTH AND IN RELATION TO PERSONS PER SQUARE FOOT ARE PRESENTED. FACTORS OTHER THAN ROADWAY AND TRAFFIC CONDITIONS ARE CONSIDERED. RECOMMENDATIONS FOR PURPOSES OF PLANNING MOVEMENT OF PEOPLE INTO CIVIL DEFENSE SHELTERS ARE MADE.
