STABILITY OF ARTICULATED VEHICLES

EVIDENCE SUGGESTS THAT THE ARTICULATED VEHICLE'S ACCIDENT RATE IS NO HIGHER THAN THAT OF A COMPARABLE RIGID VEHICLE; HOWEVER, THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF ACCIDENTS WHICH APPLY PARTICULARLY TO ARTICS: THEY CAN FOLD UP LIKE A JACK-KNIFE OR THEY CAN OVERTURN. THE CAUSES OF JACK-KNIFING, TRAILER SWING AND OVERTURNING ARE EXPLAINED, AND SOME REMEDIES ARE SUGGESTED. /AUTHOR/
