PERCEPTION MODEL FOR DESCRIBING AND DEALING WITH DRIVER INVOLVEMENT IN HIGHWAY ACCIDENTS

A MODEL THAT RELATES DRIVER PERCEPTION AND ACTION TO HAZARDS ON THE ROAD IS PRESENTED. FACTORS AFFECTING PERCEPTUAL ERROR ARE DISCUSSED. ENVIRONMENTAL AND VEHICULAR MODIFICATIONS, VISUAL ACUITY AND PERCEPTUAL TRAINING ARE DISCUSSED AS COUNTERMEASURES TO DECREASE PERCEPTUAL ERROR.
