DIGITAL COMPUTER SIMULATION OF FREEWAY TRAFFIC FLOW
A COMPREHENSIVE GENERAL MODEL HAS BEEN DEVELOPED AND VALIDATED TO SIMULATE TRAFFIC FLOW ON A FREEWAY SYSTEM WITH FIVE THROUGH LANES, FOUR ON-RAMPS, AND SIX OFF-RAMPS. THIS MODEL CAN BE USED TO STUDY TRAFFIC FLOW ON A SECTION OF FREEWAY WITH A MAXIMUM LENGTH OF 3.5 MILES, WITH BOTH RIGHT-AND LEFT-HAND ON-RAMPS. THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE MODEL ARE DESCRIBED, ELEMENTS OF PROGRAM LOGIC AND INPUT/ OUTPUT ARE PRESENTED, AND SAMPLE RESULTS ARE SHOWN.
