Relationship between the superficial and structural characteristics of pavements: the binder rheological contribution in friction phenomenon
This paper is about an experimental study, carried out through two parallel phases, which are aimed at investigating the temperature influence on the skid resistance and on binder stiffness variations. Thanks to the comparison of the results it has been possible to create a model, which is able to estimate the variations of the skid resistance values (expressed in BPNs), depending on the temperature changes, with binder stiffness variations as a thermosensitive element inside the pavement. In such way it has been possible to verify the existence of a new "structural" contribute in the friction phenomenon, due to the binder deformability, together with the known components of molecular adhesion between the superficial elements in contact and those of rubber loss of viscoelastic energy.
