ALL-WEATHER PAINTING FACILITY COMPLETED AT QUINCY
The Quincy, Mass, Division of General Dynamics Corp, in upgrading the facilities at the shipyard, has constructed two paint spray rooms able to handle subassemblies 50 ft sq and 30 ft high with effective climate control to insure safe operating conditions and guaranteed coating quality. Each paint room has 125,000 cu ft of space, and is ventilated at the rate of 37,500 cu ft/min by a gas-fueled makeup air system. At zero degrees ambient, the makeup air system can discharge 37,500 cu ft/min of 80 F air into either or both spray rooms. Details are given for heaters, air circulation, interlocks, safety measures and painting operations.
