CONNECT: co-ordination and stimulation of innovative ITS activities in Central and Eastern European countries

The integration measures of the Central and Eastern European countries in the EU requires activities on many areas, whereas traffic and transport are one of the most crucial from legal, economical, ecological and sustainability point of view. CONNECT is sketched as a co-ordinated action plan for the Euro-regional development and deployment of intelligent transport systems and services in the road sector within Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia and the eastern regions of Austria and Germany. CONNECT aims to significantly influence traffic, mobility and safety of road users as well as to increase the quality of traveller information services in the member states. Major corridors of the TERN and the adjacent road traffic arteries will be covered by traffic management and control measures and safety issues. CONNECT will enlarge the existing TEMPO programme started in 2001, to the new EU member states.
