Noise emission from 4000 vehicle pass-bys: an Inter-Noise 2004 presentation
The increased accuracy of the new Nordic noise prediction model Nord2000 calls for more accurate noise emission data for road vehicles. During the year 2000 detailed measurements of noise and speed of 4000 vehicles have been carried out according to the proposed new Nordic measurement method. The method is based upon the statistical pass-by method ISO 11819-1. Noise as a function of speed was determined for different subgroups, showing that at low speed noise from vans were some 2 dB greater than from cars, and diesel powered vehicles were more noisy than vehicles with petrol engine. The noise from dual-axle trucks was 3 dB smaller than from multi-axle trucks, but 1 dB greater than from busses. Finally the influence from road texture, vehicle age, and engine size was investigated by multiple regression analyses. The statistical models show a noise minimum for MPD near 0.5 mm.
