WHICH ENGINE WILL POWER THE AUTOMOBILE OF THE FUTURE?

AFTER LOOKING AT VARIOUS OPTIONS IT IS THE AUTHOR'S OPINION THAT OUR GOAL SHOULD BE TO IMPLEMENT THE GREATEST SHORT TERM GAINS FROM SWITCHING TO LIGHTER WEIGHT CARS WITH LOWER HORSEPOWER; TO SELECT ON A LONG RANGE BASIS ONE OR TWO PROPULSION SYSTEMS WHICH HAVE THE BEST OVERALL SOCIO-ECONOMIC BALANCE; AND TO ESTABLISH EFFECTIVE TECHNIQUES FOR TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER FROM THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO MAKE SURE THAT ONE OR TWO NEW POWER PLANTS ARE MAKING SIGNIFICANT IMPACT BY THE YEAR 2000. /DOT/
