Development of Requirement Specifications for Transit Frontal Collision Warning System

This study conducted research on the requirement specifications for frontal collision warning system (FCWS) for transit buses. a thorough data collection and analysis effort was conducted, which established a foundation for the determination of sensor performance and system specifications and for the definition of the performance requirements. The research team closely interacted with transit agency drivers to understand their needs, expectations, operational environment and to define system boundaries. A prototype FCWS was developed and instrumented on three transit buses. Field testing of the system under regular service provides valuable inputs to the development of the requirements.
