NEW USERS CITED FOR SCRAP TIRES
RESEARCHERS AT RUTGERS UNIVERSITY HAVE FOUND THREE NEW WAYS OF UTILIZING SCRAP RUBBER WHICH MAY PLAY A ROLE IN SOLVING THE TIRE DISPOSAL PROBLEM. THEY HAVE FOUND THAT DISCARDED TIRES CAN BE USED TO PRODUCE HIGH-PROTEIN FOOD, CONDITION POOR-QUALITY SOIL, AND PURIFY WATER. ANOTHER FINDING PROVED TIRE RUBBER CAN BE USED IN PRODUCING SEVERAL ORGANIC CHEMICALS. GOODYEAR'S JACKSON, MICHIGAN TIRE PLANT WILL USE WORNOUT TIRES AS FUEL TO GENERATE STEAM FOR NEW TIRE PRODUCTION.
