Investigation into methods for increasing compliance with tram fairways and transit lanes: final report
The Fairway program began in the earlier 1980s in response to the desire of the then Government to reduce tram travel times. The Fairway program had two aspects. The first was the introduction of active tram detection and priority of traffic signals and the second was the designation of road space used by trams into different yellow marked categories which were marketed as 'Fairways'. This study involved the following: literature survey and identification of issues; selection of survey locations to observe driver behaviour; survey driver behaviour at the five sites; driver interviews; identification of options to improve compliance.
