Mass limits for mass management accredited vehicles
When the NHVAS was implemented, Ministers agreed that the mass limits within the Mass Management Module would be reviewed following any review of the way 'mass tolerances' were treated by jurisdictions. Austroads has recently undertaken a review of on-road enforcement and proposes to replace the notion of a mass tolerance to the statutory limits with an adjustment to the measured mass. This Discussion Paper seeks comments on a policy proposal that would allow operators accredited in NHVAS mass management to retain access to mass limits similar to those provided through the tolerances. This proposal would have no impact on operators accessing Higher Mass Limits (HML) through the use of road friendly suspensions and, where required, mass management accreditation.
