Transit New Zealand value for money project update

In recent years Transit New Zealand and the wider roading sector in New Zealand have experienced significant real price pressure. This has driven up the cost of delivering road maintenance and construction resulting in reduced activity for the same level of investment. On interrogation, these price pressures can be traced to increases in both international and domestic construction commodity prices. The increase in these commodity prices can further be related to the recent rapid growth rate of the international economy (in particular China and India) and the buoyancy in both international and domestic infrastructure and related markets.
