An interview study of older pedestrians in metropolitan Sydney

This study sought to 1. ask older people about their behaviour as pedestrians; 2. ask what factors they thought were important to their road safety, and 3. establish a measure of exposure to traffic in the form of the number of roads crossed per walking trip and per distance walked. The study was designed to interview older people in the course of a normal walking trip and aimed to determine the actual rather than a reported estimation of the number of roads crossed, and to examine perceptions of safety in relation to a recent road crossing experience.
