Sharing the road with log trucks
The Tumut, Tumbarumba and Gundagai Councils, in conjunction with Forests NSW and the Forest Industry Council, identified the need for light vehicles and log trucks to share the road safely. A focus on road safety and log haulage vehicles commenced in April 2003 with the formation of the Forest Industry Council Safety Solutions Group. This group consists of members from Forests NSW, the Forest Industry Council, log haulage operators, NSW Police, RTA, and Councils’ Road Safety Officer. The “Sharing the Road with Log Trucks” campaign is one strategy of the Safety Solutions Group. This project aims to raise motorists’ awareness of sharing the road with trucks as well as log haulage driver awareness of the need for safer driving behaviour.
