MOBILE TEST VEHICLE MEASURES EXHAUST EMISSIONS ON THE ROAD

THE ACQUISITION OF MEANINGFUL PERFORMANCE AND EXHAUST EMISSION DATA FROM AUTOMOBILES UNDER ACTUAL ROAD CONDITIONS IS VITAL TO VALID LABORATORY RESULTS. SUCH DATA ARE NOW BEING OBTAINED WITH A MOBILE INSTRUMENTED CAR. TESTS WERE RUN AT IDLE-DRIVE, AT STEADY SPEEDS ON THE CHASSIS DYNAMOMETER, AND AT STEADY SPEEDS ON THE ROAD. IN GENERAL, TEST RESULTS SHOW THAT ENGINE TUNEUP PARAMETERS CAN HAVE A MAJOR INFLUENCE ON VEHICLE EXHAUST EMISSIONS AND FUEL ECONOMY. /HSL/
