TORSIONAL STIFFNESS OF WAGONS
The importance of torsional stiffness in the design of freight cars in terms of tendency to derailment and flange and tread wear characteristics is stressed in this survey. Theoretical design approaches and their correlation with experimental data are assessed for lateral oscillations caused by wheel motion. The effect of torsional stiffness on torsional-swaying oscillations, body twisting oscillations and change of wheel load are also evaluated.
