HIGHWAY AIR POLLUTION STUDY COMPLETED
IN ORDER TO VALIDATE MATHEMATICAL MODELS FOR PREDICTING CARBON MONOXIDE (CO) PATTERNS ALONG HIGHWAYS, AIR POLLUTION, METEOROLOGICAL, AND TRAFFIC DATA MEASUREMENTS WERE TAKEN -- CO LEVELS, AIR TEMPERATURE, WIND SPEED, AND VEHICULAR MOVEMENT. THE MEASUREMENTS WERE MADE WITH A NEW SAMPLING TECHNIQUE INVOLVING CONE SHAPED SNIFFERS MOUNTED AT INTERVALS ON A 60 FT. TOWER. THE MODELS WERE DEVELOPED BY THE WESTINGHOUSE DEFENSE AND ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS CENTER FOR THE MARYLAND DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND MENTAL HYGIENE.
