What is an activity friendly environment? [removing infrastructural barriers to physical activity]

The removal of infrastructural barriers to physical activity is one component of a broader physical activity strategy. The other main component is an individual's social environment, where inter- and intra-personal relationships affect our ability and motivation to be physically active. AFE project is primarily focused on overcoming infrastructural barriers. However, it is well accepted that social and infrastructural barriers interact and 'asset solutions' are only one part of the recipe. The AFE project is aimed at physical activity and leisure planners within territorial authorities who are often the ones tasked with investigating the development of strategies to enhance community outcomes - more so now under the requirements of The Local Government Act 2002.
