ARROWS: Advanced Research on ROad Work Safety standards in Europe

ARROWS is an acronym for the European research project: Advanced Research on Road Work zone Safety Standards in Europe. Its objectives are multiple: 1. to inventorize work zone safety measures; 2. to assess the nature and extent of the (traffic) safety problem at work zones, in terms of traffic accidents and road user behavior; 3. to assess the effectiveness of existing safety measures; 4. to review methods for assessing said effectiveness, and propose a standard evaluation test bench; 5. to propose and evaluate improved sets of safety measures; 6. to recommend a framework for European standards; and 7. to provide a practical handbook for improving the safety of road workers and users. The present Deliverable 4 - Volume II reports on the work carried out within ARROWS Workpackage 4 (Practical Handbook). It constitutes a Background Report to the ARROWS Practical Handbook, which is produced as Deliverable 4 - Volume I.
