International overview: latest in asphalt surfacing: CAPSA 2007: conference highlights: asphalt quality and performance
The 9th Conference on Asphalt Pavements for Southern Africa (CAPSA 2007) took place in September in Gaborone, Botswana with the theme "consolidating best practice". To achieve the theme the organizers identified unresolved issues and challenges from previous conferences and invited internationally recognized authors to present to the plenary sessions on best practice in these areas. Through highly interactive structured workshop sessions the identified key industry challenges were discussed with conclusions and agreements reached. The final session in the conference was an evaluation of the success in addressing the challenges. One of the key unresolved challenges considered at the conference was: variability and risk issues related to quality assurance. The following paper will provide feedback from CAPSA 2007 on the challenge.
