THE CODING AND TRANSMISSION OF INFORMATION BY MEANS OF ROAD LIGHTING
A SURVEY OF CAR LIGHTING AND OVERHEAD LIGHTING SYSTEMS AND PRINCIPLES IS MADE. THEORETICAL CONSIDERATIONS REGARDING THE DRIVING TASK AND THE INFORMATION NEEDED BY THE CAR DRIVER IN ORDER TO PERFORM THIS TASK ARE DISCUSSED. SOME SPECIAL FEATURES ARE INCLUDED IN THE THEORY BECAUSE KNOWN THEORIES DO NOT PERMIT AN ADEQUATELY DETAILED APPROACH TO THE ROLE OF LIGHTING. SOME GENERAL CONSIDERATIONS FOR LIGHTING (BOTH OVERHEAD AND CAR LIGHTING) ARE INDICATED. DESIRABILITIES FOR LIGHTING ON URBAN AND RURAL ROADS (BOTH WITH LIGHT TRAFFIC OR DENSE TRAFFIC) AND MOTORWAYS ARE PROPOSED. /TRRL/
