Older people: their transport needs and requirements: main report
This report presents the findings of an investigation into the transport requirements of older people commissioned by the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions DETR. in October 1999. The aim of the study was to conduct an audit of both current and future transport needs, taking into account future demographic changes in England and Wales. The primary focus was on people aged 60 or more, although some qualitative work was also conducted among the 50-59 age group. The work programme concentrated on four main tasks: 1. literature review; 2. qualitative research (six focus groups); 3. quantitative research (1,445 household interviews); and 4. discussions with an advisory group convened for the study and comprising representatives from DETR, transport providers, charities and others with expertise in the area.
