Rural and regional young people and transport: improving access to transport for young people in rural and regional Australia
In recognising the need to investigate the transport needs of young people living in rural and regional Australia, and to seek integrated solutions to meet these needs, this project was commissioned as part of the program of the National Youth Affairs Research Scheme (NYARS). The aim of the project is to investigate transport and travel for rural and regional young people, to examine successes and challenges in improving the provision of transport services to young people, and to focus on viable solutions to their transport needs. This research will: 1. provide insight into a range of models employed by state and territory governments and local government in service delivery; 2. Identify cross jurisdictional/cross-regional models; 3. draw on experiences across different states/ territories; 4. examine the extent of privatisation of transport systems and extent of impacts on youth; 5. explore case studies of international experience; 6. investigate the role of community organisations and volunteers; and 7. provide government, service providers and the community with tools to assist in improving services.
