SWITZERLAND: LIGHTING FOR THE BELCHEN TUNNEL
A DESCRIPTION IS GIVEN OF THE LIGHTING SYSTEM EMPLOYED IN THE BELCHEN ROAD TUNNEL IN SWITZERLAND. THE TUNNEL HAS A 30 M TRANSITION ZONE FOR DRIVER ADAPTION AND A ZONE OF ABOUT 125 M WITH COMBINED FLUORESCENT AND HIGH PRESSURE SODIUM LAMPS, GIVING A GRADUALLY REDUCED LEVEL OF ILLUMINATION FROM 2000 TO 500 LUX. SINGLE LAMP FITTINGS GIVE AN ILLUMINATION OF 150 LUX UP TO 300 M INTO THE TUNNEL. THE CENTRAL ZONE HAS AN ILLUMINATION OF 40 LUX. ALL THE LATEST SAFETY DEVICES FOR THE CONTROL OF LIGHTING AND VENTILATION SYSTEMS HAVE BEEN INCORPORATED IN THE DESIGN. /TRRL/
