Maximum fares for taxis in NSW for 2007/08: recommendations to the Minister
Every year, the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal of NSW (the Tribunal) reviews maximum fares for taxi services and recommends changes to these fares to the Minister for Transport. This report explains the Tribunal's recommended changes to maximum taxi fares for 2007. Over the past 12 months, the Tribunal has reconsidered its approach to regulating maximum taxi fares. In April of this year, it released a report setting out a number of changes to the method it uses to decide on recommended fare increases. Many of these changes were applied in making the recommendations in this report. However, these recommendations represent an interim stage in the process. The Ministry of Transport is currently working on an industry-wide survey of taxi costs, which the Tribunal expects will lead to further changes in its approach.
