ROADWAY LIGHTING SYSTEM DESIGN

A COMPREHENSIVE DESIGN OF A ROADWAY LIGHTING SYSTEM IS PRESENTED. THE DESIGN CRITERIA OF SUCH A SYSTEM IS DISCUSSED AND INCLUDES A CONSIDERATION OF THE AMERICAN STANDARD PRACTICE FOR ROADWAY LIGHTING. CALCULATION OF THE LUMINAIRE SPACING DISTANCE REQUIRED TO ACHIEVE THE DESIRED MAINTAINED ILLUMINATION LEVEL, INVOLVES THE USE OF THE COEFFICIENT OF UTILIZATION ALONG WITH VARIOUS MAINTENANCE AND ADJUSTMENT FACTORS IN A RELATIVELY STRAIGHT FORWARD COMPUTATION. AN ILLUSTRATED EXAMPLE OF UTILIZATION EFFICIENCY CURVES IS PRESENTED. THE DETERMINATION OF UNIFORMITY RESULTING FROM THE SYSTEM ESTABLISHED IS DISCUSSED, AS ARE ALSO, EQUIPMENT AND MAINTENANCE FACTORS. THE COMPREHENSIVE SYSTEM ALSO INCLUDES MAKING A COST ANALYSIS, WHICH INVOLVES THE USE OF KNOWN OR ESTIMATED COST FACTORS TO DETERMINE AN APPROXIMATE INITIAL INSTALLATION COST, AND ANNUAL OPERATING AND OWNING COSTS. THE TYPE OF DESIGN DESCRIBED IS VERY APPROPRIATE FOR COMPUTER PROCESSING. AN EXAMPLE OF THE PRINTOUT OF A COMPUTER PROGRAM IS INCLUDED.
